The most memorable teacher that I ever had took the time to know the strengths and weaknesses of all the students in our class. In our English literature class, he would use this cryptic correction code that he made up to help us figure out where we made mistakes. This provided us with opportunities to learn from our mistakes by going back over our texts and find out what was wrong.

He was committed, passionate, kind and caring. His commitment to students and students learning was felt by everyone and his professional knowledge and practice were what made him such a memorable teacher. He inspired me to learn English and taught me that everything is possible with the right amount work and a dash of heart.

This remarkable mentor even inspired me to become a teacher. I believe in these magical moments when you get to help a struggling student and see how much progress they've made over the year.

I think that technology can also help us make our lessons more engaging for the students. I regularly use technology in my classroom and I am very excited about all the options available at our school. During my first day of Community Service Learning (CSL), I saw that St. Theresa school had green screens (used to record films), a wide variety of tech tools and resources including robots, iPads, coding pads; even a 3D printer is on the way! Carol Campbell (Teaching and Learning in a Digital World) mentions that technology is more and more often being used for assessment. Students record themselves, make videos, create blogs and portfolios that are reviewed by the teacher. Have a great weekend.
